THE three fresh faces of the Education Ministry officially clocked in for their first day of work last week.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh was the first to check in during a symbolic ceremony held at the former Higher Education Ministry in Putrajaya last Tuesday.

He was accompanied by Deputy Education Ministers Datuk Mary Yap and P Kamalanathan.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when announcing the cabinet last week, said the Education and Higher Education Ministries would be merged.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was reappointed as Education Minister.

After meeting with senior officials from the former Higher Education Ministry last Tuesday, Muhyiddin said it would take about a month to complete the process of merging both ministries.

He said the restructuring would not take long as the main functions of the previously separate ministries would remain.

Muhiddin said the Education Ministry was expected to have more than half a million staff members after the merging of two ministries into a single entity.
