School bullies expelled
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three students of a secondary school who
earned the wrath of netizens for assaulting a helpless schoolmate last
month, had been expelled from school.
The incident was made public after a video clip of the bully act was
uploaded on the Facebook yesterday and went viral in the cyberspace.
State education director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin said, the victim had
sustained a minor injury and the trio has been suspended after the
school has been notified about the incident
"The trio had been expelled since March 8, however we gave them a time
to appeal," he said adding that the students will be transferred to
another school.
Meanwhile, police yesterday issued a statement that the incident had
taken place at Sekolah Menegah Kebangsaan Tun Hussein Onn, here, last
month when a student, believed to be the class representative was beaten
 by a several classmates.
The video has also been shared on the police Facebook page with several
authorities urging the victim or his family to come forward but police
said they did not received any report from the individual concerned.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant
Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said, they did not receive any report from the
individual concerned and the case has been settled by Seberang Prai
Tengah district education office (PPD) and the respective school
management. "Even though we did not receive any report, we had opened an
investigation paper under section 147 of the Penal Code which carries a
penalty of two years' jail or a fine, or both," he told New Straits
Times, yesterday.
The one minute and 32 seconds video started with a group of students
crowding around the camera in a classroom, shouting and posing for a
picture with a background of the victim helplessly been surrounded by a
group of students.
However, about 10 seconds later, one of the students wearing a grey
T-shirt kicking and punching the victim in a 'Tomoi' style martial art
senselessly, with a background of several students taunting and shouting
 towards the victim.
The victim, who still had his bag with him, received countless gruesome
punches and kicks on his head, neck, back, and his stomach for about 20
seconds before two others joined in and continue to beat the student.
Mazlan said police had identified the suspects and will conduct a
further investigation.
