Couple detained over battered 5-year old daughter

IPOH: A five-year-old girl suffered various bodily injuries after she was believed to have been abused by her own mother several days ago.

The child was believed to have been canned by her mother at their house in Taman Wang, Menglembu here.

It is learnt that the 30-year-old woman became enraged with the girl's behaviour.

The girl's 39-year-old father took her to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital on Thursday for treatment.

The doctor, who attended to the child, lodged a police report at the hospital's police base.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong, when contacted, said police had detained the parents at 1.20pm today.

"They are expected to be brought to the magistrate's court here tomorrow for remand," he said.

Sum said the case was being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

This five-year old girl is believed to have suffered multiple injuries on her whole body from being beaten by her mother at a home in Taman Wang, Menglembu in Ipoh, Perak.
