Clerk dies after package explodes in his hands

TUMPAT: A primary school clerk was killed when a package exploded in his hands here Sunday, police said.

Mohd Yusrizal Mat Zain, 32, was in his mother-in-law’s house when he saw a package on the roof of his brother-in-law’s car in front of the house in Taman Seri Periuk, Kampung Periuk, at about 11am.

Kelantan CID chief ACP Lai Yong Heng told reporters he died on the spot.

Lai said Yusrizal was from Kampung Kenor, Kuala Krai, and had worked as a clerk at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Manik Urai, Kuala Krai.

He had come to visit his in-laws Saturday night. 

Yusrizal is survived by his wife and four-month-old daughter.

The explosion damaged two cars and jolted the residents of nearby villages.

 

Yusrizal's brother-in-law, who declined to be identified, said Yusrizal and his family had arrived at their home last night in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

He said the black package on the roof of the car was first spotted by Yusrizal's wife.

A neighbour, Kamaruddin Che Mat, 56, said the explosion rocked the neighbourhood and when he rushed over to he found Yusrizal's wife crying. -Bernama
