Former Olympian Ishtiaq Mubarak dies

PETALING JAYA: Former national athlete and coach Ishtiaq Mubarak, ex-Olympian and Sportsman of the Year in 1976, passed away at 9.55 Friday morning after a fall at his home in Hulu Kelang, at the age of 65.
Ishtiaq whose full name is Ishtiaq Ahmad Mubarak Ahmad, was a big sporting star in his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s.

An outstanding hurdler, he competed in three Olympics and was a gold medallist at SEA and Asian Games level.
He also served as a national junior squad trainer until 2012.
Ishtiaq leaves behind two daughters.
