Cuepacs wants government to reveal public sector salary schedule
Its secretary general Loke Yim Phing said they wanted the schedule to be released quickly as many members have been asking about it.
"In the new salary scheme, members only know about their pay for the year only. They cannot see the movement of their pay and their salary scale. So, we want it to be clear with a salary schedule that can be referred by all," said Loke, who is also the secretary general of the National Union of the Teaching Profession.
She was speaking to reporters after a visit by NUTP officials to SK Tanjong Mas here yesterday.
Loke said Cuepacs wanted it to be done speedily as it not involved only teachers but the whole of the public sector. NUTP president Hashim Adnan who was also present said they hoped to hear good news about it soon.
On another development, Hashim said the Education Ministry should come out with a standard guideline whether teachers who previously taught Science and Mathematics in English should repay the allowance given out to them since they were no longer teaching the subjects in English.
He said certain state Education Departments have asked teachers to repay the allowance they received last year but some departments were not collecting them.
"We hope the ministry will come out with a clear guideline. We hoped teachers will not be forced to pay back the allowance as the amount reached up to RM10,000 to RM15,000. It is not the teachers fault as the allowance was given by the ministry," he said.
The government allocated RM40 million annually since the allowance was introduced in 2003 with diploma teachers receiving about RM200 monthly or 10 percent of their salary while teachers with degrees receiving five percent of their salary.
