KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- A section of the Mahameru Highway
from Parliament House to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) has been
temporarily closed following a landslide on a hillside in the area
Tuesday.
A Kuala Lumpur traffic police operations room spokesman said the landslip on the hillside at 5.20pm was believed to be caused by the heavy rain in this evening.
The landslide which covered a 10 square metre area also blocked the highway (Kuala Lumpur-bound), causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
"Members of the public wanting to go the area are advised to use alternative routes," said the spokesman when contacted.
Meanwhile, Sentul Fire and Rescue Station head Zahari Mohamad said a total of 17 personnel and two fire engines were rushed to the scene after being alerted of the landslide.
Apart from the Fire and Rescue Department and police, a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement team was also on duty to monitor and clear up the site and control traffic.
This landslide is the second in the area since the last incident in May last year.
