KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun
Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was puzzled the Malaysian Airlines (MAS)
MH370 is still unable to be tracked despite the advanced technology
today.
Berita Harian reported Tuesday that Dr Mahathir had said
that technology today can detect even a small movement such as a
human’s location, no matter where they are.
However, the same technology is unable to detect the location of the missing Boeing 777-200ER which remains a mystery until today.
“I follow the development (search and rescue mission) and am puzzled that in a modern world with such advanced technology, we are still unable to track the 63-metered-long aircraft,” he said.
“But with the same technology, we can detect a human although he is just standing on a roadside,” he was quoted by the daily.
Dr Mahathir said if the aircraft had crashed into an ocean or on land, satellites and the advanced technology owned by the major powers of the world would have been able to detect its debris.
“Today is the 11th day for the mission to search for the MH370 aircraft, I am saddened by the incident and I understand what the families are going through because until now, we don’t know the fate of the passengers and crew onboard,” he added.
The MAS’s Boeing 777-200ER which was on its way to Beijing went missing since Saturday morning and has not been found until today.
So far, Malaysia has received humanitarian aid from 26 countries which had also helped to track the aircraft in their waters.
The search and rescue mission which was launched on the first day the aircraft went missing, recorded the largest and longest in history with over 240 hours so far.
