PETALING JAYA: Netizens took to social media Tuesday in a collective outpouring of grief for the 239 passengers and crew members on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

On Monday night, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that MH370 had gone down in the southern Indian Ocean at a remote location west of Perth, and all on the aircraft were feared dead.

Izzat Nazli, the nephew of leading steward Wan Swaid Wan Ismail, posted a series of tweets from @theonlywannn after the press conference: “Today I gave up holding my tears. Ya Allah give us all strength to go through this.”

He also took to Instagram with a captioned picture to express his grief: “Heartbreaking news for 'legacy Wan Ismail', no words can describe my feelings right now. We miss you Uncle Swaid. Al-fatihah.”

Director Shamaine Othman urged others to log off social media and spend precious time with a loved one: “ I am going to get ice cream with my mother and sister. Say a prayer for the passengers, their friends and families and the many men and women who searched for answers. Thank you to those who have contacted me. Dina, Maria, Aunty Bibi and her sister you will be missed tremendously. Al-Fatihah.”

On Facebook, a former staff member of Malaysia Airlines, Ritzeraynn Rashid, voiced his sorrow for those who lost their loved ones: “Heartfelt Condolences and to the crew, especially Patrick Gomes and Capt Zaharie … I'll miss you guys. Thanks for a wonderful time we shared working together. May Your Souls Rest In Peace MH370. Ameen.”

TV personality Daphne Iking also offered her thoughts and prayers to the families and friends on board MH370: “May you be granted strength during this extremely difficult time. To everyone who has and continues to work around the clock in the search operation, THANK YOU for the dedication. We will continue to pray.”

Flight MH370 went missing on March 8 with 239 people aboard en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Najib said that based on new analysis by satellite company Inmarsat and the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on the satellite data provided, it was concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor to its last position in the middle of the Indian Ocean west of Perth.
