Malaysians In New York Hold Special Prayers For MH370

NEW YORK, March 18 (Bernama) - Malaysians in the city of New York gathered for a special 'Hajat Prayers' to pray for the safety of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 which was reported lost 11 days ago.

The special prayers was being led by the Trade Consul, Shahrulmiza Zakaria, and joined by almost 70 Malaysian nationals residing in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Those present were officials at the Malaysian Mission office at the United Nations (UN), the Malaysian Consulate in New York, representatives of Malaysian agencies and financial institutions, Malaysian students and others.

Deputy Malaysian Permanent Representative to the UN, Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah said the effort was one of the sincere contributions by Malaysian nationals in New York who prayed for the safety of the passengers and crew of MH370.

The Office of the Malaysian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York had also set up a message board PrayForMH370 to enable all Malaysians and visitors to convey their messages of concern, hope and notes.

The incident had drawn wide interest of Muslims in New York.

During the Friday prayers at the Islamic Centre Mosque of Mid Manhattan, the sermon also touched on the MH370 incident and called on all Muslims to pray for the wellbeing of the passengers and crew of the aircraft.

The Beijing-bound Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board, disappeared about an hour after leaving the KL International Airport at 12.41 am on March 8. It was scheduled to arrive in Beijing at 6.30 am on the same day.

The fate of the passengers is unknown as the multi-national search for the aircraft has drawn a blank so far.
