Govt allows EPF contributors to register early to perform Haj
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today said that the government would allow contributors to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF)to register early to perform the haj from 2012.
This, he said, would be done by allowing EPF to ring-fence RM1,300 from the
contributors' Account 2.
"Through this, the existing EPF savings of RM1,300 will remain with EPF, but
contributors are eligible to register for haj," he said when tabling Budget 2012
in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The government, he said, was aware that many of the low-income earners had
difficulties in registering for Haj due to insufficient funds to meet the
minimum savings of RM1,300.
This way, it will allow intending pilgrims to register early to perform the
haj, he added. - Bernama
