Students nationwide sit for first SPM paper today
KUALA LUMPUR: Students around the
country are sitting for their first paper which is the Bahasa Melayu
Paper One for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on
Wednesday.
Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh monitored the start of the examination for 125 students at SMK Puteri Wilayah.
“This year, it is compulsory for students to pass their History paper for SPM,” he told reporters after visiting the school.
Idris said it is very important for Malaysians to know the basics of national history and this year will see more attention given to the subject.
He added that passing the English subject would also be compulsory by 2016 for ample preparation time.
The Education Ministry in an earlier statement, said a total of 470,395 candidates are sitting for the SPM this year, from Wednesday to Dec 4.
The ministry’s Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) advised candidates to refer to the examination timetable for the times of the papers and instructions.
It added, candidates are also advised to bring their identity cards to the examination centre.
