from Nurulhuda Che Das
PARIS, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will give a presentation on its education initiative at the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 exhibition here on Friday (Nov 8).
"The exhibition is held to share Malaysia's experience in implementing the country's education system transformation, which is a followup to the 'Education Policy Review' conducted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco)," explained Malaysian Ambassador to France, Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
He said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who would be making a five-day working visit here to attend the 37th Unesco General Conference beginning on Tuesday would open the exhibition staged at the Unesco headquarters.
"Unesco director general Irina Bokova will be present with Tan Sri Muhyiddin at the function," he told Malaysian reporters covering the event here Sunday.
According to Ismail, Muhyiddin would attend the conference opening on Tuesday and the Leaders' Forum the following day.
"Muhyiddin is also expected to present the six-minute National Statement alloted to each member country on Thursday," he disclosed.
Ismail said throughout Malaysia's 55 years as a member, it had sat on the Unesco executive board for seven terms.
Malaysia also secured Unesco world heritage status for its sites such as Kinabalu Park and Gunung Mulu National Park in 2000 and was selected to sit on the World Heritage Committee (WHC) until 2015, he said.
On Malaysia-France relations, Ismail said both countries had good bilateral cooperation particularly in education.
"Currently about 1,044 Malaysian students are studying in various educational institutions in France. Most of them are in the engineering programme under the special sponsorship of the Public Service Department and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara)," he said.
He said Malaysia needed to initiate more collaboration with educational institutions in France in research, student exchange, double degree and industrial training.
