'Chong Wei makes Malaysians proud'
He commended Lee for showing a high level of commitment throughout the game that should make Malaysian fans proud.
"He did not give up easily and he put up a gallant effort in trying to win in the final," he said after performing Isyak and terawih prayers at Naim Mosque in Jelawat here.
In the final, Lee lost 15-21, 21-10 and 21-19 to China's Lin Dan in a three-set thriller which left many on the edge of their seats.
Later, the prime minister tweeted that Chong Wei had given his best last night against Lin Dan.
"All Malaysians are very proud of you!" Najib tweeted.
In Putrajaya, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Chong Wei is still a Malaysian hero.
He said Malaysians were still proud of the nation's No. 1 shuttler despite his narrow defeat to Lin Dan.
"Winning and losing is the tradition of every game, and we have seen how Chong Wei had given it his all to fulfil Malaysia's dream for an Olympic gold medal.
"Unfortunately, luck was not on his side."
Muhyiddin attended a breaking of fast by Eden Inc Bhd before catching the three-set thriller with the crowd at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
