The greatness of mother's love
At a little Bukit Nambua near here is a 100 year-old-woman, Meliah Md
Diah, who has spent all her life looking after her mentally and
physically disabled son, Abdul Rahman Saud, 62.
With a deformed body especially his four torsos, Abdul Rahman can not
walk and talk properly, forcing him to spend most of his life sprawled
on the floor.
Things were even more challenging for Meliah after her husband and
their three other children, had passed away, leaving her all alone to
look after Abdul Rahman.
Meliah's plight had touched state exco member and Kuala Nerang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Hashim.
Badrul Hisham, who visited the family recently, was moved to help to build a more comfortable living space below their house.
The house requires too much of strength of the octogenarian as she
needs to climb the staircase, besides the strenuous task of looking
after Abdul Rahman.
Meliah and Abdul Rahman surviving on monthly allowance from the Welfare
Department (JKM) as well as zakat (tithe) but Badrul Hisham said the
amount was not enough for the family to sustain their life.
As such, Badrul Hisham urged well wishers to step in to ease their burden.
"The family also needs a sophisticated wheelchair to enable Abdul Rahman to move around," he said.
Badrul Hisham had also took the effort to help Meliah and her son to
renew their identity cards with the National Registration Department.
Badrul Hisham said Meliah reminded her of the greatness of a mother's love.
"Her sacrifices should reminded Malaysians about the sacred love of a mother," he said.
Meliah said her daily routine starts as early as 7am to tend to her son.
Distant nephew Mohd Sufian A. Rahman, 34, had been helping the family
whenever he can particularly buying them foods and moving Abdul Rahman
around the house.
"Tok (Meliah) would clean the son before helping to move him to the
verandah in the morning and he would stay there till dusk," said Mohd
Sufian.
