Body of late deputy education minister being taken for burial KUCHING,
Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Datuk Bujang Ulis, a former deputy education
minister, died at his home in Kampung Semariang Jaya, Petra Jaya, early
Monday. He was 66.
Bujang, who was also known as Bujang Hadziri Ulis and had served also as a deputy primary industries minister, leaves wife Maimunah Sebli, 58, and seven daughters aged between 12 and 36.
His eldest daughter, Siti Azimah, 36, said her father collapsed onto her mother at about 1 am while they were watching television in their room. He was pronounced dead at 1.30 am, she said.
"As far as the family knew, my father did not suffer from any chronic illness," she told reporters at the residence.
Siti Azimah said her father would be buried at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery after the Zuhur afternoon prayers today.
Bujang had nine daughters but two of them died in a fire which destroyed their house in Batu Kawa, Kuching, in 1998.
He served as deputy primary industries minister from 1980 to 1983 and as deputy education minister from 1984 to 1986 when he was the MP for Simunjan.
In 1983, he was elected as a vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) with the highest number of votes.
He left the PBB in 1986.
Among those who called at Bujang's home were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abang Ahmad Urai Abang Mohideen and former deputy inspector-general of police Tan Sri Mohd Jamil Johari also called at his home.
