MB: Perak's forests are in great shape

DESPITE allegations of rampant deforestation activities, Perak has in fact managed its forests commendably.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir told the state assembly sitting here yesterday that the state's per capita forest acreage was better than the national average.
He said at 0.43ha per person, it was way higher than the national average of 0.2ha per capita.
"This achievement is something that the state can be proud of.
"We will continue our efforts to preserve the forests," he said when answering a supplementary question from Kenering assemblyman Datuk Mohd Tarmizi Idris who wanted to know what had been done by the state government to preserve the forests for future generations.
Earlier, when answering a question from Kuala Sepetang assemblyman Chua Yee Ling, who had asked about the total size of permanent forest reserves in Perak, Zambry said the state government had taken steps to increase the permanent forest reserve to 48 per cent of the state's area.
He added that previously the permanent forest reserves stood at 997,504.11ha or 44.42 per cent of the state's total area of 2,103,500ha.
He also added that Perak had 76 permanent forest reserves. Zambry said the sustainable forest management system adopted by the state was the key to the achievement.
He said the state also issued strict conditions which must be adhered to by timber companies.
On the decision by the Selangor state assembly to approve fatter paychecks for the menteri besar, executive councillors, the speaker, his deputy and assemblymen, Zambry cynically said that the decision was supported by the people of Selangor.
He said that if such a decision was made in any Barisan Nasional-led states government, it would receive heavy criticism from opposition lawmakers and supporters.

Permanent forest reserves now cover 48 per cent of Perak’s total area.

Electricity tariffs to go up 10%-20% next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Consumers should brace themselves for a 10%-20% hike in electricity tariffs next year.
“The quantum (of increase) is not finalised … but anything below 20% is reasonable,” said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The final decision on the increase has yet to be made by the Cabinet, but the hike could happen anytime in 2014, he told reporters on the sidelines of a Parliament session yesterday.

The move, he said, would be in line with the Government’s plan to gradually cut subsidies.

It would also be in line with its efforts to boost efficiency and competitiveness in the Malaysian power industry, as well as to ensure sufficient returns to capital for utility company Tenaga Nasional Bhd to cover its costs.

A tariff hike will see rates for both industrial and households increase, but any hike for businesses will be mitigated against the need for them to remain competitive.

A home appliance that is rated at 1,000 watts, if left switched on for one hour, would use 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity.

A 10%-20% hike would translate into an increase of 3.35 sen/6.7 sen per kWh to 36.85 sen/40.2 sen per kWh.

This is based on the prevailing tariff rate of 33.5 sen per kWh, which is about 8.5 sen below the “true cost” of power at 42 sen per kWh.

In comparison, electricity tariffs in the Philippines and Thailand are 58 sen per kWh and 48 sen per kWh respectively.

Ongkili said the Government would implement a “stabilisation” programme to protect consumers, especially the low-income group, when the tariff hike takes effect.

Details of the programme have yet to be finalised.

The electricity tariff was last revised in June 2011 after the Government raised the subsidised gas price for the power sector to RM13.70 per million metric British thermal unit (mmbtu) from RM10.70 per mmbtu.

Gas accounts for about 50% of electricity generation in peninsular Malaysia. Coal accounts for 40%, hydropower about 8% and renewable sources around 2%.

Subsidies for the power sector are RM8bil to RM12bil per year, depending on the prevailing price of gas.

The Government’s share is RM150mil and the rest is borne by Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd.

Ternampak kaki bayi

Parts of upgraded Segambut road now open to public

KUALA LUMPUR: Several parts of the newly upgraded Segambut road are now open to public.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the open routes were the 1.4-kilometre long road with four lanes in each direction and the 182.5-metre-long flyover near the SPPK Segambut junction.
"These routes will make it convenient for motorists heading to Mont Kiara and I hope they will help improve the traffic flow from the area to the city centre," he told reporters after opening the routes here today.
He said the overall cost for the upgrading project was RM48 million and it involved the construction of the flyover, pedestrian bridge, main road and drains, as well as public utility movement.
In his speech earlier, Tengku Adnan said according to the original plan in 2009, the ministry and the Kuala Lumpur City hall (DBKL) had wanted to rebuild the four-kilometre-long Segambut road, right from the Segambut Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) bridge to Mont Kiara at a cost of RM165 million.
However, he said the limited allocation given by the federal government had caused the upgrading work to be carried out in stages.
Meanwhile, the minister said the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) concessionaire was in the midst of building additional routes, to be known as DUKE 2, which would enable motorists from DUKE to enter the Segambut road, or vice versa, without having to pay any toll.
He said the RM2 billion project was expected to be completed by 2016.  -- BERNAMA

Lethargic organization

There are lots of theory has been discuss about leadership and management to increase productivity in organization. In school organization, Principal is a role model to the students, teachers and communities surrounding us.The school nomenclature was set up base on Education Act 1996 (Act 550) An Act to provide for education and for matters connected therewith. [31 December 1997, P.U. (B) 541/1997] AND WHEREAS the purpose of education is to enable the Malaysian society to have a command of knowledge, skills and values necessary in a world that is highly competitive and globalised, arising from the impact of rapid development in science, technology and information:( source).

Learning Organization

The most important thing in learning organization is to develop the awareness among teachers, students and school citizen in the system. How do people interact with our system in school?. Do they selfish and blaming others for their problems? Are they surely serious in creating something new to the school for the future of students? This question always interrupting my mind how to develop an excellence organization for the benefit of young people.Learning organization closely connecting to the school philosophy to achieving our goals. Learning environment strictly design by Principal and teachers to attract students to study effectively.Organization will collapse  because of misleading or in organized well.

Tougher leadership

Leadership become more tougher to convince people working together through esprit de corps to uphold the integrity and to maintain school reputation.People look at school through various lens. Some of them blaming school administration because of lack of information. They do not satisfied with the teachers or Principal handling several issues regarding their son in school or what ever way they want, we can't fulfilling their needs. This thing happen because of  our own mistake, lack of information and we are not alert with something happen surrounding us.Organization that  fail to serve and justify people can be categorize Organizational Lethargy or familiar known lethargic.Do not let our organization death because of low self esteem of leadership. Stay away from lethargic to transform our organization to serve people successfully.

Conclusion

Hutang negara RM529.2b

Promoting Royal Belum's allure

GOPENG: PERAK will be actively promoting the Royal Belum forest reserve to the European market. The state has been working extra hard to draw in tourists for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014, and this was one of the strategies being adopted.
State Tourism Committee chairman Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said Perak has traditionally been bypassed in tourism promotional activities.
"Perak is not in the tourism promotion map, as the normal tourist attractions are Pulau Langkawi, Penang and Kuala Lumpur," she lamented.
Speaking to reporters after launching a community programme at Kampung Jahang, here, recently, Nolee Ashilin said Tourism Perak needed to work harder on advertising and promoting the state which had been identified as having been weak when it came to drawing in tourists.
"We need more travel agents to create inbounds for us. Tourism Perak can only do as much, but those with licences to bring in tourists also need to do their part," she said.
With its work cut out, Nolee Ashilin said Perak was aiming for five million domestic and foreign visitors to the state next year in conjunction with VMY 2014.
"Normally, we get 3.5 million tourists annually, but we hope the number will increase significantly next year," she added.
On the target market by Perak in conjunction with VMY 2014, Nolee Ashilin said Tourism Perak would be concentrating on European, Middle Eastern, Singaporean, Chinese and Japanese tourists.
"We have decided to promote Royal Belum as an icon for the European market, while Singaporeans are into food and heritage trails," she said.
"Tourism Perak and Tourism Malaysia are working together to showcase different products to cater to different markets."
Nolee Ashilin said Tourism Perak will meanwhile also be going to every district in the state with major tourism products to enhance and help increase its standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
"We will also increase our visibility by erecting more billboards along highways. We hope the three million motorists using the highways will be enticed to stop over in Perak," she said.
In addition, a Perak travel fair will also be held next month in Kuala Lumpur.

The Royal Belum forest, which is part of the Amanjaya Forest Reserve,
is being used to draw in more European tourists to Perak.

Don't Change System- Change People

It is very difficult to change people than  changing  the system but mostly people willing to  change the system rather than transform peoples thinking. Attitude and manners  is a prime indicator to succeed excellence product in all field. Our system actually good enough   to monitor the outcome or result. There are three stages of  working hours for the government servant  that have been implemented successfully in the country (7.00-400, 7.30- 4.30 and 8.00-5.00pm) several years ago. Businesses divided over Friday-Saturday weekend
JOHOR BARU: Businesses are divided over the switch to a Friday-Saturday weekend in Johor although it is optional for the private sector whether or not to adopt it.

The Iskandar Regional Development Authority does not foresee any problem resulting from the change.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Ismail Ibrahim said: “We will continue to ensure seamless service delivery to investors and potential investors alike and business will continue as usual.”

He added in a statement that the authority would coordinate steps taken with federal agencies and the business community.

Johor Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar said the members depended on foreign investments and the change could affect them because most financial institutions worldwide closed on Sunday.

He said it would be a “drawback for investments” if association members closed businesses on Friday.

South Johor SME Association chairman Teh Kee Sin said the change could be “to a certain extent” inconvenient, but companies would just have to reorganise their operations accordingly.

“Our state had Friday and Saturday as rest days before 1994, and none of the private sector companies adhered to that weekend.

“However, the situation has changed as we now have many government-linked companies, and most of our members have business dealings with them,” he said.

Teh said that SMEs dealing with international companies might have a problem conducting transactions if their weekly off days differed.

“I, however, believe that the small and medium enterprises need to make changes and maybe focus on more online-based applications to deal with this issue,” he added.

The Johor Federation of Malay NGOs Coordinating Council applauded the change taking effect on Jan 1.

Its vice-president Abdul Rahman said: “As Muslims, we certainly welcome this good news as Friday is an important day for us to bring our children to the mosque.”

In Petaling Jaya, The Malaysian Employers Federation said that companies with international clients would be affected by the Johor weekend switch, and called on bosses in Johor to be flexible with their work and rest days.

MEF executive director Shamsuddin Bardan said: “If a client needs to be attended to quickly on Friday or Saturday, then that company will only be able to do so on Sunday. That’s why we need flexibility,” he said when contacted.

He noted that private companies were not obligated to adopt the Friday-Saturday weekend.
“If private employers can’t follow the state ruling for operational reasons, then they have the discretion not to follow it,” Shamsuddin said.

Police mount first operation to round up traffic offenders

Knock knock: Ipoh traffic policemen going ‘door to door’ to round up habitual traffic offenders.
Knock knock: Ipoh traffic policemen going ‘door to door’ to round up habitual traffic offenders.
PETALING JAYA: The Ops Cantas Khas Trafik crackdown has already begun with the police rounding up habitual traffic offenders first.

The operation commenced in Ipoh and saw traffic policemen going “door to door” to bring in motorists with more than two warrants of arrests and more than 15 unsettled summonses.

The first operation was conducted between 3pm and 6pm on Thursday.
Nationwide operations, which will see the police stopping motorists at roadblocks, will commence next week.

“We are targeting the habitual offenders first,” Acting Federal Traffic chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff told The Star yesterday.

He advised the public not to be alarmed as the habitual offenders would still be given a chance to settle the summonses despite being picked up.

“The objective of the operation is to get the offenders to pay up,” he stressed.
SAC Mohd Fuad said the police had prepared the warrants of arrest for 251,000 traffic offenders.

“We are going ahead with roadblocks mounted nationwide to arrest errant vehicle users from next week.

“After being arrested at a roadblock, the motorist will be brought to the police station and if he or she refuses to pay the summons, the person will be released on police bail with one surety,” he said, adding that the police would then apply for a new court date for the individual to either challenge the case or plead for a lower fine.

He said all preparations ahead of starting the roadblocks had been completed.
“We want to ensure that all state police contingents will be ready to carry out the operations successfully,” he said.

Asked about public complaints over difficulties in checking summonses on the official police online portal, SAC Mohd Fuad said there were many alternatives to do so, including through www.myeg.com.my, www.rilek.com.my, post offices and at Maybank ATMs.

“The public can check at selected shopping malls or go straight to any traffic police counter. They can even check at the Road Transport Department branches,” he said.

It was previously reported that the number of traffic offenders had been growing each year and along with that the number of motorists who were ignoring their summonses.

In 2008, traffic police went after 96,000 vehicle users with unsettled summonses under Ops Warta VII but as of now, the figure had shot up to more than 1.7 million.

Unable to go after all of them at once, police are targeting over 251,000 errant motorists, heavy vehicle drivers and motorcyclists in the first stage of Ops Cantas Khas Trafik.

Notices are being sent out to the offenders, warning them that warrants of arrest have been issued. At the same time, expired warrants are being renewed.

Memegang Islam Seperti Memegang Bara Api

Mendidik manusia

Islam  di datangkan Allah ke muka bumi bertujuan mendidik diri menjadi hamba terbaik yang di sebut dalam Al Qur'an Khairun Ummah. Mengapa di sebut Khairun Ummah kerana manusia beriman meyakini dan mentaati Allah dan RasulNya Saw sepenuh jiwa raga, tanpa bahas dan takwil.Menjadi umat yang terbaik kerana menjaga hak-hak Allah dan pesan Nabi SAW dalam setiap aktiviti kehidupan bertunjangkan Tauhid dan keimanan yang teguh. Semua perkara yang di sebut Tuhan dalam Al Qur'an dan di perjelaskan melalui Hadith Baginda Nabi Saw menjadi pegangan orang beriman hingga ke akhir hayat.Selain Al Qur'an dan Hadith, Ijmak dan Kias telah di sepakati sebagai landasan pengukuhan dalam pengamalan harian.Ilmu mendominasi kehidupan manusia tetapi ilmu tanpa Agama  seumpama pokok yang tidak berbuah.Ilmu yang hakiki ialah mengenal Allah sebagai Rabb yang menciptakan manusia , haiwan, tumbuh-tumbuhan dan seluruh  isi alam dengan indah,harmoni, teratur dan berjalan mengikut SunnahNya. Langit yang tidak bertiang, bumi luas terbentang mengandungi pelbagai spesis flora dan fauna menjadi ibrah kepada Ulil Albab iatu orang yang menggunakan akal fikirannya menghayati dengan tadabur setiap ciptaan Tuhan sehingga menumbuhkan rasa ketaqwaan diri,lalu lidahnya menyebut ;

Education For All Achievable Only With Internet Access, Says Shabery

By Minggu Simon Lhasa

BANGKOK, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The phrase, "education for all", can only be achieved if there is Internet access for everyone, said Minister of Communication and Multimedia Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

Education is one of the most significant functions when it comes to Information Communications Technology (ICT), he said in his remarks as a panelist at the ITU Telecom World 2013 Dialogue Programme on Education Transformation: Importance of ICT in 21st Century Education, here Wednesday.

"The problem of the digital divide will widen if we cannot provide access to broadband and the development divide will further cause an education divide," he added.

In this regard, Shabery also saw the need to find solutions and the right model for each country.

"How many countries are really being connected in terms of accessibility, in respect of broadband and in providing devices and everything related to using ICT in education?" he asked.

He said the infrastructure demand in education was great and kept changing.

"Before, talks about the percentage of coverage among the population and penetration rate was good enough. But today, it is about the quality.

"An Internet speed of 1 mbps or 4 mbps is no longer sufficient and the United States as an example, has targeted to provide 100 million households with 100 mbps and to schools and other institutions at 1 gigabyte.

"How many of us are really on track to meet that kind of demand? For me that is very important," Shabery added.

Another major issue raised at the dialogue concerned teachers and their readiness to embrace ICT in education.

Macedonian Minister of Information Society and Administration Ivo Ivanovski said parents and grandparents are key to ensuring that ICT projects in education are a success.

He added that getting the support of teachers was a challenge and there are those who have been an obstruction from the start, in relating to his country's own experiences.

"But if you get the support of parents, the teachers will have to support ICT in education," he added.

Pangkor isle spruce up for VMY 2014
LOOKING GOOD FOR VISITORS: Serious effort is being made to clean up the island destination for next year’s major tourist event

IPOH: AS part of the state's preparation to anticipate tourists for Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014), the Perak government is embarking on an intensive island and underwater clean-up for Pangkor Island.

State tourism committee chairman Nolee Ashilin Mohamad Radzi said the clean up will be held from Friday to Sunday at the selected areas such as Teluk Nipah and Pulau Lalang.

The underwater clean-up will involve 30 divers from Australia, Germany, the US and Malaysia.
"We are working closely with our partners -- Tourism Perak, SNR Adventure Consultant and Sea Monkeys Dive Centre -- to carry out the three-day, two-night project called My Perak Green and Clean Underwater and Island Clean Up," she said.

"The clearing of underwater debris is to protect the marine ecosystem.
SNR Adventure Consultant will carry out coral restoration and propagation programmes," said Nolee, adding that this was the second time the state government was embarking on an underwater clean-up project. The first was held in 2010.

The project, said Nolee, aimed to create awareness of the importance of keeping the water environment clean for the conservation of marine life, mainly coral reefs and fishes.

"The clean-up programme will also include island hopping, hornbill feeding, tree planting, cleaning of signboards and launching of a taxi booth," she said.

Meanwhile, SNR Adventure Consultant operations director Shamsuri Abd Latiff said serious effort was needed to protect the marine life from extinction.

He said divers are alarmed at the rate corals were disappearing and the shrinking fish population.
Sunset View Chalet managing director Noordin Bakar said Pangkor Island has much to offer tourists such as jungle trekking, scuba diving and island hopping.
