Flash floods bring traffic to a crawl along major city roads
TRAFFIC in Kuala Lumpur was
chaotic after heavy rains and strong winds caused flash floods and
toppled trees in several parts of the city.
The Jalan Duta-Jalan Semantan interchange was one of the worst-affected stretches by yesterday’s 3pm downpour, with cars caught in a bumper-to-bumper crawl.
A car was found stalled in the fast rising waters along the slip road to Jalan Duta from Jalan Semantan heading towards Jalan Kuching.
StarMetro reader Goh Bok Yen was caught in the chaos while travelling along Jalan Duta near the MRT construction sites.
“There was muddy water everywhere. I had to abandon my plan
of turning onto Jalan Semantan when I saw how high the water had risen,” he said.
All three lanes on both sides of Jalan Duta were inundated and at its peak, the water was 30cm high.
Motorists coming from Jalan Semantan were stalled on the ramp as muddy waters had covered the exit at Jalan Duta heading towards Lebuhraya Mahameru.
Other areas where flash floods occurred included Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Bangsar and the Jalan Ampang-Jalan Sultan Ismail junction.
A car was hit by falling branches near an underpass along Jalan Tun Razak but the driver and passengers were unhurt.
