Consumers still using as much water as when dams were full

Going down: The water level at the Sungai Selangor dam as seen yesterday.
PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s dams are running dry, but its residents are still using nearly as much water as they were when the dams were full.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry secretary-general Datuk Loo Took Gee said people in Selangor were only using 7% less water despite the water rationing in the state.

As of yesterday morning, the Sungai Selangor dam in Kuala Kubu Baru recorded a 36.53% capacity. Its critical level is 30% – which will be reached in just two weeks if water levels consistently drop.

“Despite the water rationing, the regulator has found that the (amount of) water saved is a mere 7%.

The demand has only dropped by (that much),” Loo said in an interview, citing National Water
Services Commission figures.

It was reported that the demand for treated water in Selangor was 4,641 million litres a day.

This would mean that a mere 325 million litres are saved each day, which Loo said was not enough.

Malaysia, she said, had low water tariffs and Selangor gave 20 cubic metres of water for free to its residents each month.

This did not motivate people to save water, and the ministry was mulling the possibility of a water surcharge to stretch the state’s resources, Loo said.

“It’s a possibility in light of the present dilemma that we have right now...If you go beyond a certain consumption, you must increase (charges),” she added.

According to the Malaysian Water Industry Guide 2013, Selangor residents are charged RM0.57 per 1,000 litres for the first 20,000 litres. This is bumped to RM0.72 for the first 30,000 litres and RM0.77 for the first 35,000 litres.

The state’s last tariff review was in 2006.

Loo said the Government might consider declaring a water emergency before dams reached critical levels.

“We’re not going to wait until the levels reach 30%,” Loo said, referring to the Sungai Selangor dam, the state’s largest.

“I hope that by the end of April there’ll be more rain coming. We have to prepare the necessary measures needed to be invoked, just in case,” she said, declining to say when either a surcharge or emergency might take effect.

She added that the ministry was considering taking water from the Labu and Ngoi-ngoi treatment plants in Negri Sembilan to supplement Selangor’s water needs during this time.

If the critical level is reached, a water emergency can be declared and the Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister is given discretionary powers to do whatever he wants to conserve water resources.

He would have the power to ban car-washing and garden-watering as well as take action against those violating the water emergency rule.

Duo in Sweden found guilty and to pay RM52,000 in compensation to children

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian couple accused of child abuse in Sweden has been found guilty and sentenced to prison by the Solna District Court.

Azizul Raheem Awalluddin, who is in Sweden as a Tourism Malaysia director, and his wife Shalwati Norshal will also have to pay damages to their four children.

Shalwati, a teacher who took unpaid leave to join her husband over there, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for gross violation of the integrity of their daughter and eldest son, as well as for assaulting their two younger sons.

Azizul will serve a 10-month sentence for gross violation of the integrity of his eldest son and for assault of his daughter and second oldest son.

He was, however, acquitted of any offences against his youngest son.

Yesterday, the court also ordered Shalwati, 46, and Azizul, 38, to pay compensation to their children in the sum of 67,200 SEK (RM33,900) and 36,400 SEK (RM18,362) respectively.

Shalwati’s counsel Kristofer Stahre said she was not appealing. With one-third remission on the sentence and discounting the three months already spent in detention, Shalwati will be released in about six months and Azizul in less than four months.

District Judge Mattias Möller said even if the violence was relatively minor, he found it fell “under the more serious charge of gross violation of integrity involving systemic and repeated violence”.

He said the children’s testimony was “highly credible” and there was “nothing to support the idea that the children wanted to harm their parents by inventing incorrect information”.

“Most of the violence has been inflicted with the hands but a cane — called a rotan — and a clothes hanger have been used as well,” said Judge Möller in a press release issued by the District Court.

He, however, rejected the prosecution’s request to deport the couple at the end of their sentence.

The judge’s full 61-page verdict was posted on the court’s website, though only in Swedish.

Shalwati and Azizul have been in detention since Dec 18, last year after their second child, Ammar told staff at his school that he had been hit at home, leading them to report the matter to the authorities.

The couple was charged on Feb 10 with multiple counts of gross violation of a child’s integrity.
The offences took place in the family home in Spånga, a Stockholm suburb, between Sept 15, 2010 and Dec 17, last year.

Sweden has outlawed corporal punishment since 1979 and is known to punish offenders heavily, with the minimum prison sentence being nine months.

Malaysia Is Doing Its Best In Finding MH370 - Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- As Malaysia is doing its best to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370, there is thus, no requirement to do it any differently, said Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said despite being watched like a hawk and frequently criticised by others, Malaysia had been very consistent and did not speculate, unless there was evidence which was corroborated and verified.

He noted, that was proven by the focus of the search and rescue (SAR) operation - led by Malaysia - which shifted to the southern Indian Ocean area, given that no one had thought it would be the last flight path for the ill-fated aircraft.

"Where we are today, is based on very consistent and transparent efforts on our part.

"At the early stage of the search, nobody would have thought that we will find the plane in the Indian Ocean, (which is exactly) where we are today.

"Earlier, we were talking about the plane landing in Nanning (China), oil slicks on South China Sea, sighting of the plane in the Melaka Strait, going north to Andaman," he said in the daily media briefing on the search operation which entered its 21st day, at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.

Also present were MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya and Department of Civil Aviation director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.

Hishammuddin believed that history would judge Malaysia as a country "that was very responsible" and advised the Chinese not to be too emotional and (not to) listen to speculation.

"Emotions are running high. Lots of interest in this issue and people get crowded.

"I genuinely believe the SAR (search and rescue) team from Malaysia and the three gentlemen up here (referring to himself, Ahmad Jauhari and Azharuddin) have conducted ourselves responsibly, and history will judge that," he said.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, left the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8, and disappeared from the radar about an hour later while over the South China Sea.

It was to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30am on the same day.

After 17 days of searching, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Monday announced the aircraft flight path had "ended" in the southern Indian Ocean, after searchers used a new form of data analysis - never used before in a search for a missing plane.

Kehidupan Hasanah

Setiap mengakhiri solat kita membaca doa Rabbana Aatina Fiddunia Hasanah Wafil Aakhirati Hasanah Waqinaa Azaabannar.

Taufan dahsyat melanda Fillipina.

SHAH ALAM: "I love you" were the last words that MH370 flight steward Mohd Hazrin Hasnan had uttered to his wife just hours before the Malaysia Airlines aircraft was reported missing on March 8.
The words will forever be ingrained in the memory of Intan Maizura Othaman, 34.

Recalling the last few hours before the disappearance of MH370, Intan Maizura who is pregnant with their second child, said Mohd Hazrin had missed the vehicle provided by MAS for its staff on the night of March 7.

She said her husband had then requested her to send him to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang.

"During the journey, we had the usual conversation and Mohd Hazrin held my hand and kissed it. 'I love you' were his last words," she said when met at her residence here on Wednesday.

Intan Maizura said her son Iman, 4, had been asking about his dad prior to the announcement on Monday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that the MH370 flight ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

"The following day, I told Iman that his father had gone to work and the plane that he was on had malfunctioned, so he would not be returning home as he is now in heaven," she said. - Bernama

Mandi Cara P.Ramlee

Tangki masih kering. Setelah membasahi badan, saya keluar bilik air. MH370 crash: Outpouring of grief over 239 lives lost

From Wan Swaid Twitter.
From Wan Swaid Twitter.
PETALING JAYA: Netizens took to social media Tuesday in a collective outpouring of grief for the 239 passengers and crew members on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

On Monday night, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that MH370 had gone down in the southern Indian Ocean at a remote location west of Perth, and all on the aircraft were feared dead.

Izzat Nazli, the nephew of leading steward Wan Swaid Wan Ismail, posted a series of tweets from @theonlywannn after the press conference: “Today I gave up holding my tears. Ya Allah give us all strength to go through this.”

He also took to Instagram with a captioned picture to express his grief: “Heartbreaking news for 'legacy Wan Ismail', no words can describe my feelings right now. We miss you Uncle Swaid. Al-fatihah.”

Director Shamaine Othman urged others to log off social media and spend precious time with a loved one: “ I am going to get ice cream with my mother and sister. Say a prayer for the passengers, their friends and families and the many men and women who searched for answers. Thank you to those who have contacted me. Dina, Maria, Aunty Bibi and her sister you will be missed tremendously. Al-Fatihah.”

On Facebook, a former staff member of Malaysia Airlines, Ritzeraynn Rashid, voiced his sorrow for those who lost their loved ones: “Heartfelt Condolences and to the crew, especially Patrick Gomes and Capt Zaharie … I'll miss you guys. Thanks for a wonderful time we shared working together. May Your Souls Rest In Peace MH370. Ameen.”

TV personality Daphne Iking also offered her thoughts and prayers to the families and friends on board MH370: “May you be granted strength during this extremely difficult time. To everyone who has and continues to work around the clock in the search operation, THANK YOU for the dedication. We will continue to pray.”

Flight MH370 went missing on March 8 with 239 people aboard en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Najib said that based on new analysis by satellite company Inmarsat and the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on the satellite data provided, it was concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor to its last position in the middle of the Indian Ocean west of Perth.

Flight MH370 ended in southern Indian Ocean, says Najib

He said that Immarsat, the company that indicated the plane flew along northern and southern corridors, have managed to trace its final flight path, using sophisticated technology.

"Using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort, they have been able to shed more light on MH370's flight path."

He said that MAS, together with AAIB, determined that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean West of Perth.

"With deep sadness and regret, that according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean," he said.

He added that a press conference would be held tomorrow with further details about the latest findings.

"In the meantime, we wanted to inform you of this new development at the earliest opportunity. We share this information out of a commitment to openness and respect for the families, two principles which have guided this investigation," said Najib.

MH370, which had been missing for the last 17 days, disappeared from Malaysian radars at 2.15am on March 8 after taking off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport for Beijing at 1.30am. It carried 239 passengers and crew.

Malaysia Will Be High Income Country By 2020 - Dr Mahathir

KATHMANDU, March 24 (Bernama) -- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Malaysia, currently a middle-income country, would be a high income nation by 2020, for which the Malaysian Government had laid out a comprehensive plan and was working out accordingly, to achieve the set goal.

Delivering an extempore speech in the Nepal Business Conclave 2014 on Sunday, Dr Mahathir set forth the vision for development which he adopted during his long tenure as Malaysia's prime minister.

"In fact, it is not me but the founding fathers of Malaysia who set the guidelines for the country's development, modernisation and industrialisation, which I simply followed," he said while speaking on the policies during the early days of Malaysia.

"When Malaysia gained its independence, 50 per cent of the people were in poverty and the founding fathers realised that the country must lift these people out of poverty for which they focused on stability, social harmony and sharing of political power and economic resources in an equitable manner," he said.

He added that this policy paid off and Malaysia could slowly emerge as a middle income country.

Stating that Malaysia was a multi-racial country, Dr Mahathir said its founding fathers focused more on harmony and co-existence among the different races, which created stability and social harmony.

"This was an important basis for industrialisation and development. Sharing of political power and economic resources among all people is yet another most important basis for development for any country in the world and Malaysia put this vision into practice, which not only empowered the people but also gave them the feeling of ownership in the development and decision-making process."

Dr Mahathir pointed out that the other important basis for the country's development and industrialisation was education, and Malaysia did its best to ensure that its people had every opportunity to be educated.

"We need to upgrade people's skill and knowledge for development, which we accomplished by ensuring free primary education, scholarship to secondary-level students and fund and incentives for building and establishing universities.

"In addition, we sent many Malaysian students to study abroad in various areas of science and technology so that they would return home with more skill and knowledge to help build infrastructure and innovate our economy and other sectors."

These schemes paid well and it helped to upgrade the people's living standard and modernise Malaysia's economy, noted Dr Mahathir.

When he cited that the most important factor for Malaysia's development was the determination and dedication of its leaders and people to translate their promises into action and practice, the audience applauded.

"Unlike in some other developing countries, our plans do not remain on paper but they are really implemented so that their goals and targets are achieved."

The important lesson Nepal could learn from Malaysia was the culture of coalition, said Dr Mahathir.

"In Malaysia, we build coalition before election and share power on the basis of election outcome. But Nepal has coalition only after election."

"Coalition before election is the real coalition forged with the determination and vision for a country's development. But the post-election coalition is just the coalition of convenience which generally does not work.

"Even now, we have the coalition government of 40 parties and the opposition has also formed a coalition. Coalition has become Malaysia's political culture which can be a lesson for other countries as well, including Nepal," he said in response to a question on what Nepal could learn from Malaysia's experiences.

He also said politicians, including himself, must not work for themselves but for the people, adding "that alone wins the hearts of the people and contributes to a country's prosperity."

Speaking on political system, he said that democracy was necessary for a country's well-being.

"But democracy should not be dictated and imposed by others, it should be the political system that can deliver to the people.

"Democracy needs constant reforms and improvement to make it better as democracy can never become perfect anywhere in the world," he said.

On Nepal, he said it was a beautiful country and had tremendous potential for development, adding that if these potentials were properly harnessed, it could be a prosperous country.

Noting that about half a million Nepalese were working in Malaysia, he said they had contributed to Malaysia's development and prosperity, and the Malaysian Government had duly recognised their labour and contribution.

Dr Mahathir is the keynote speaker at the Nepal Business Conclave 2014, which concludes today.

The Business Conclave was inaugurated by Nepal's Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who also praised Dr Mahathir highly, for steering Malaysia into stability, prosperity and modernisation.

Cuaca Kembali Menyengat

Nauzubillah.

Frontier of Knowledge

We are now living in the 21 century which is very sophisticated millennium era. Knowledge and Sciences become more tough than the past. The technology advanced such as whats App,tweeter,Facebook is taking place in spreading all information and communication within a second.People across the globe use the electronic devices to communicates between each other beyond boundaries and territories. The learning and teaching process is never ending to all people until the end of our breath. We should not be complacent with the degree we have such as Bachelors, Masters or PhD in the University because it is just a formality to get a specific job parallel to our graduation. Many people who hold a degree but unfortunately they do not getting available profession due to their qualification. We may ask our self why this situation could be happen? To me the appropriate answer is on our own character, our personality, our credibility, our performance, knowledge and ability to do the job well.

Frontier of knowledge

The school system is provided to educate young people with the proper knowledge. Leaders today was early determine by the school administration in all aspects. In school we have co-curricular activities, uniform and club societies beside academic excellence to nurture  students betterment. Students was trained by the teachers in building skill and self confidence to explore thinking ability in front of audience during the school function and events. We are responsible to shape and sharp their mind to think broadly as an epitome scholars to face the world challenging in the 21 century. But sadly to say public interpretation to the school were not so proud than the past.Teachers has no right  to educate students because there are a lots of interference by the people surrounding us.

Education objective

The teaching and learning process become harmful to manage people if public  do not fully trusted teachers profession. What is the main purpose of education? Why people always question our credibility? Where is our main objective ? How to make our education process more benefit to the people? There are several argument always come in my mind due to teaching and learning process in school today. The main objective of education is to educate the young generation with knowledge, skill and competence for the better future. We teach and guide them to be good in personality, building humanity character through frontier of knowledge and skill development in all areas.Teaching profession is a noble job to produce human intellectual honesty for the nation. I personally appreciate and congratulates my teachers who works patiently to generate human capacity building among students.
